Puppy Temperament Test at 7 weeks
|
Sire Dexter is Danish import, dam Tess is French, both from working background (all SCH. IPO, or FR, etc). Both
have had hips, elbows OFA Good, and eyes cleared by a registered ophthalmologist. Pups will be AKC, waiting to
receive Dexter's DNA result.
We did the formal temperament test, at 7 weeks, the 9 pups had a one and 1/2 hour car ride to get there. They did not
say a word in the car (usually it means they get car sick), but no! when I arrived, they were frisky and ready to come
out!
Overall, they did extremely well, all social, all went to get the 3 different retrieve balls plus a metal chain on the floor
tile, all grabbed, most brought back readily, a few did lie down to play and chew the ball. 2 dragged the metal chain
on top of the flat metal crate! several times, the ball went UNDER the tarp, they went under the tarp to retrieve the ball!
All social, all with excellent food drive, all pushed the overturned dish to get the food from under, but no food
aggression.
All went to the metal chain dropped in metal dish on noise test. Some even picked it up.
All had a good prey drive, although a few did let go when tester pounded the floor, but went right back at it. 3 had
above average grabbing power, but still no growling.
The lone male and 2 females were over the top on everything, had full mouth bite on rag, did not let go, did grab the
bumble ball, lying on it to control its movements, even carried it and shook it! (It is a 5 inches round ball with spikes
and a motor inside, it bounces in all directions and is heavy and noisy.) It indicates a strong fight drive.
Toe pinch: they did not react at all, licked the tester after, like they ALL did after any "unpleasant" test, like the
elevation and the "on the back" tests.
3 are good for police work (have fight drive), and retrieve anything with the nose to search. Above average drives.
These three will not be equipment oriented, and will bite whatever their teeth will reach first!
3 are good for the protection sports and all performance sports, including SEARCH and RESCUE. Excellent all
around drives.
3 are pets, even though they retrieve, and play tug, none are growly, and can be fun dogs even for first time Belgian
owners. Because they are NOT skin sensitive, they should be good with kids.
All are very stable, handler oriented, willing to take directions, work WITH the handler rather than challenge him/her,
or invent their own games, but not at all submissive, they are always ready to handle hard working conditions = will
take everything in stride.
Very homogeneous litter, not one "flunkie"!
We all were pleased!
A bonus: these puppies are NOT noisy even when alone in a crate!
