In the last 45 years, all the trips made to Europe were for kennel hopping, no time for sight-seeing, the family, etc. This last time, it was to be a 100% family time, no dog stuff! But, fate handled it differently... my sister stopped at a place to get some dog food for her 2 Boxers, lo and behold, there was a little Malinois female pup running around in the store! Very outgoing, grabbing everyone's shoes and pants...after doing a few tests on her, and asking about her all working origins, my family said: "you have to get her!"
I did, it was Tess des Plaines de Champagne, we were not ready for a puppy this time, no puppy paraphernalia, no crate etc., but she took everything in stride, for the rest of the trip, all day car rides, trip to the vet for her health papers, elevators, restaurants, etc. The Paris airport is not set up for pets, nothing phased her.
Tess grew up to be the proverbial bull in a china shop, bulldozer style, everything in her path gets mowed down, very strong physically and mentally. I did French ringsport with her, but had to quit due to severe back problem and other difficulties (I'm just getting too old) :0). She is extremely social, yet very protective, not gunshy, thundershy, always forward. But has an "off" switch, when in her crate. Very healthy, foodaholic, can eat anything, never made a mess since day one, never a loose stool. Beautiful shiny full double coat with just dog food.
She passed her health checkups, but when time came to breed her, I had concerns on how she'd react with a litter of puppies. I got a shock! This tough boisterous girl became the most delicate and gentle mother ever! That dog who storms from outside into her crate would first tip toe around the box, gingerly grabbing the pups and piling them in the middle, then curl up around them, her head over her tail, the puppies disappearing from view.....she repeated that every single time she went out and came back into the box, never stepped or lied on one. As they grew, they could do no wrong, climbing and chewing on her, eating her food. Yet, she teaches them how to play fair....but so very gently.
She has produced several police K9s. One of her versatile pups is not only a service dog for a paraplegic, but also does protection work.
Since she did not produce a litter these past 2 years, I picked a local dog, who complemented her pedigree and drive, but rather than keeping her inside during the day (because of our heat) and outside at night, as she is not a barker, I let her soak up the sun, and did get my litter, 9 beautiful very dark pups, eight females, one male.
Pups are raised in the house, have been exposed to various surfaces and noises, been in the car, in the crate, taken for walks individually. Very handler oriented. Great drives = see puppy test result.
